Story time! Our real estate agent recently stopped by with the sweetest summer gift basket. It had bulbs for summer flowers, potting soil, and gardening tools. It was honestly perfect timing, too, as I was planning to do some landscaping in the front yard that very weekend!
Now, the part of the basket that really caught my eye was a card with 20 ways to add curb appeal to your home. As an interior designer, I loved this little goodie! When I consult for home stagings, I always spend at least 15-20 minutes focusing on curb appeal because those first impressions matter!
While there are several things you can do to increase your home's curb appeal, I want to focus on a simple top 10. These are easy, quick projects that will make a big impact!
How to Increase Your Home’s Curb Appeal
Spruce up your porch with patio furniture.
If you've got the space, create an inviting sitting area that makes your house look more like a home. This makes it so much easier for potential buyers to imagine what it would be like to live there, sipping their coffee on the front porch or enjoying a cocktail at sunset.
Update your house numbers to make a statement. This is a quick and easy project, but it can really make a difference. You can find new house numbers at any hardware store, and they're relatively inexpensive.
Do some landscaping.
Make sure your hedges are trimmed, weeds are removed, and the lawn is mowed. This should be a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised how many people neglect their property. First impressions matter, and a well-manicured lawn is always a good look.
Update the color of your front door. You can get away with fun colors because the space is small, and it naturally draws your attention without being too "out there." Who wouldn't want to live in the house with the beautiful robin's egg blue door!
Add flowers on or near the porch. This is a simple way to add a pop of color and make your home look more inviting with vibrant signs of life.
Clean or swap out your welcome mat.
Is your welcome mat clean? This is such a small detail, but it really does make a difference. A welcome mat that is old, worn, or dirty can make your whole home look unkempt. Give it a good cleaning or replace it with something welcoming and new.
Add a wreath to the front door or some simple seasonal décor. Wreaths aren't just for Christmas; I swear they've got one for every season now! They're a great way to add dimension with some fun textures and make your front door more appealing.
Update your porch lighting – or even just clean them! This makes a big difference, especially if you live on a busy street. New or updated porch lights will give your home an updated look and make it more welcoming for guests.
Remove clutter.
This one is more of an ongoing project, but it's important to keep your porch or entryway clear of any clutter. This includes things like shoes, umbrellas, decor items, and jackets. Your home will look tidier, and it'll be easier for potential buyers to imagine what the house would look like, filled with their own personal items.
Pressure wash the sidewalks and driveway. This is another easy way to make a big impact. Pressure washing will remove any dirt, grime, or stains and leave your home with a fresh look.
By following these 10 tips, you can add curb appeal to your home without breaking the bank! You don't need to be selling your house to spruce up your curb appeal either; these are all great projects to do for your own enjoyment!
